During the academic year, Alaa is an Arabic language teacher with the Boston Public School system. Prior to teaching there, she was an Arabic lecturer in Hampshire and Amherst Colleges and has previously taught at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Alaa is a curriculum specialist and oral language evaluator with the Five College Center for the Study of World Languages in Amherst. Beyond academia, she has also worked as a translator for the Defense Language Institute, specializing in translations from English into MSA and Levantine. During the summer, she teaches intensive Arabic language courses for STARTALK critical language national program.
